Getting Started

The best way for new and potential athletes to develop their performance, is to join a club with a qualified coach, providing an affordable way to be trained in one or all of the athletics events. As well as providing a trained coach, athletics clubs also provide access to training areas and most importantly to the specialised facilities and equipment necessary for many of the track or field events. There are clubs all over the country which welcome athletes of all abilities or none. UK Athletics has a comprehensive list of clubs across the UK which can be searched by local area.

Useful Resources

UK Athletics lists regularly updated result statistics, fixture dates and competition news. The IAAF is the official international site for world athletic news, competition calendar, world rankings and statistics. The Racewalking Association offers information on racewalking events, fixtures and news as well as a list of clubs to help beginners get started.
